                                                        What a day!!                                                             (1-20-'09)

                                                        Picture
Wow, to be honest, I had my doubts that this day would come. This morning, I was listening to Ray Charles’ version of America playing in the background on the TV, (perhaps the best one ever) and watched the next president of the United State go to church. Here we are, in one of the most redemptive moments American history has ever witnessed. -- Barack Hussein Obama is going to be president! He is our best hope to get it right, to heal our national soul, to reach out to the rest of the world with an olive branch instead of brutality, ignorance, shady deals, and dishonor.

To all of you who spoke up with your vote, who wrote letters/emails, gave your money, and marched for peace, to all of you who never gave up, - I salute you; actually, us… America. We ALL share in the majestic beauty of today. Many Americans have suffered serious economic losses. Some… endured a loved one being shipped overseas to a senseless and shameful war. Thousands have seen loved ones returned home, no longer alive. And maybe even worse, no longer alive in spirit. It has been a heartbreaking time.

But the sun comes out at noon today! The disgraced outgoing president will slither out the side door and head to Crawford and clear some brush. America is going to “clear some B(r)ush” too. The best advice I can give to Mr. Bush to issue one final pardon before noon today -- his own! He should issue a blanket pardon for all the crimes he and his gang has committed since 2001 - Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Gonzales, the whole cabal. Serious laws were broken, a war was concocted on a lie, thousands of American troops died… and hopefully, justice will be carried out.

But, on this day…this glorious day, Mister President, Barrack Hussein Obama, is the voice, hope, and spirit of America. I salute you, President Obama. Move us forward and fix the horrible mess shoved onto us. We are fortunate to have you as the new president. You are smart, kind, and committed to serving your country.

Take a moment today… reflect and think about what you can do to help him do his job. We're all in this together. Our country has been so profoundly wrecked by an administration who decided to mug our constitution and then steal what they can for their Wall Street cronies on the way out the door.

Let's not leave Barack Obama alone to clean up the mess. As he takes his oath today, take one yourself -- work harder than ever to end these stupid wars, create decent, universal health care, save our planet, end poverty, increase knowledge and establish a true government "of, by and for the people" (instead of -- "of, by and for the lobbyists, the bankers, and the war profiteers.")

Today is a time for celebration and optimism and hope. I'm glad we all lived to see this incredible moment. And I thank each of you for your dedication to our democracy. Turn to a co-worker, a family member, or a close friend and tell him/her you love them, and there’s a new day “a dawning.”

                                                        Keep the faith…

12:01pm can't come soon enough! Happy Inauguration Day!
